Prostitution, a feminists view

I tweeted an article about a feminists thoughts that sex work should be made legal-this person replied to the feminists article- it disgusts me when feminists say they support prostitution. This is the ultimate form of a woman being an object. Sex is not a commodity. And women can NEVER be equal to men if men have the right to purchase them. (Majority of prostitutes are women and especially minority women and the consumers are men), this is not equalizing. Moreover, there have been studies on the psychological damage of prostitution that show damage to the women. And I think you have to look at bigger problems in gender equality when legalizing prostitution. Will that make women become objects people buy? Will that make adultery easier? Will men develop increasingly negative attitudes toward women? Our media already objectifies women and men consume porn that objectifies women, now we should make it easier to just buy them as objects. It's dehumanizing.

It behoves me to understand why some think that all women involved in sex work are objectified. Why can't people understand that sex work is work and not a social stigma or a problem that needs to be eliminated. It involves individuals interacting with one another in ways just as other workers do in other lines of work, with sales, advertising, operations, etc. There are differences but it's still a business and run as such for most involved like most other businesses. We sell a service, not ourselves and most that are vested in this business understand this and all that goes along with that.

My comments and thoughts are very simple. Everyone should STAY OUT Of everyone's business. Who are we to judge if a woman decides to use her best asset to make a living or a man who make lack what is needed to meet a woman and decides to pay for services. It's an act two or more individual's choose and why is it anyone else's business??

Am I the only one that has a hard time reading articles or posts with fonts that are too small or unreadable?.

Just asking, maybe mods can make all fonts universal.

@Ted66 sorry, not sure why the font is so small as I simply copied and pasted as per usual, maybe have a magnifying glass handy for when this happens:)
@MM I agree, but sadly as long as the lawmakers and evangelical moral prudes set standards then many will want to know what others are doing and who they're didiling.

The big trouble abolitionist feminists have with sex-work is valid, but it's a wider spread issue than just sex-work. The problem is, while rejecting patriarchal narrative, they still buy into the story that women need to be saved. They don't see the irony in what they're advocating.

Sex-work is a choice, just as waiting tables, hauling garbage, working at a call-centre are a choice. Can these be shitty jobs? Sure! Is there exploitation in them? Hell yes. But notice that only one has its legitimacy argued.

It is disgusting how some feel they have the right to decide what others do with their bodies. As long as one is not being forced it's nobody's business!

Kind of like the handgun issue from the other thread? As long as it's not used, what business is if of anyone else?

Remember that an individuals right to choose is only supported by those who agree with them.

As humans we have opinions and sadly we often wish to impose our will on others.
Many times w view others as deficient and not capable of making decisions for themselves.

So we try to impose laws to take away their right to make their own decisions.

While we must realize that unless their decisions will bring harm to others.
We need to allow others to decide fr themselves.
The possibility harming others is not enough reason to strip people of their rights.

That said. Stop for a special breakfast as demanded by the masses.

There in lies the problem....many think sex work does cause harm to others and that apparently is reason enough to make it illegal, removing my rights to choose to do as I choose with my time and my body, many think that because I sell a service, in which some think I use my body to perform, that I am harming myself and others. It is this belief that causes many to side *against* sex work and workers. But just because *masses* may like or agree with something doesn't make it right, or justifiable. It just makes it popular. Remember we *used* to do all kinds of things and believe all kinds of silliness, such as decapitating criminals, that action too was supported by the masses and deemed right....back then. In time and thankfully so people grew smarter, kinder, more aware and hopefully soon they also will with their ideologies towards sex work and particular breakfasts:wink2:
