We teach children so much about social equality, diversity and all of that other stuff that they don't have time to study the basics anymore. As for reading an analog clock...meh. Reading and Writing script....meh. Technology has made those somewhat obsolete. I think that we need to focus on the basics and add in the ability to think and problem solve. Another thing that has faded away in education...allowing students to fail. Students are so unfamiliar with failing that they don't know how to deal with it.

That's my two cents.
