I have loved three people in this life
my wife, my son and on old man named jack

I would have died for any one of them without a thought
and the perversity of life is that I live and these three beautiful people are dead

three people who were good and true
while I was the evil bastard destined to do the dirty work

three people who would never commit suicide because of their beliefs
so I continue, not because I believe, but because I will not dishonor them

it’s the smiles of a child that you remember
but it’s the times he cried that are seared into my soul
it’s the memory of his tears that break me

the pleasure of a wife
the true love of a partner
the agony of it being lost

semper fi jack
I’m too old for the dirty work
just memories of what we believed was right

the more I drink to numb the pain of today
the more I remember
the more it hurts

on this day …. if you have a child …. you are the luckiest person on earth

Spoken like a true son. My parents were divorced at a young age. It was my Father that taught me what is right and wrong but always had emphasis that Mothers come first. I love my Dad, not much life on him so will cherish every moment with him.

I spent Father's day with my Dad and the rest of the family today. He is reaching the 80 mark and it kills me to even think of not having him around. Chokes me right up even as I type this little post.

This is my first father's day separate from my family.

To be honest, I had forgotten it was FD until I dropped the dog off at home this morning.
My son jumped upi, gave me a big hug, wished me happy FD and offered to cook me breakfast.

10 minutes later my daughter called from Halifax and told me she loved me........sniff.

I'm a lucky man indeed.

Ain't it great.. :)

Had an awesome weekend... topped off by a great Father's Day. Golfing with my brothers was a hoot... and we saw way more of the golf course than we would have preferred and left a few golfs balls there as evidence! LOL

The family BBQ was a huge success.

My kids made me cry...

Laguvulin - know that your words were read, and someone else was very touched by your tribute.

Spent a great morning golfing with my regular foursome, one of whom lost his father recently. We did our best to distract him. Unfortunately, a 7am tee off means no beer during the round.

Went out for a big family feast. Struck by how my uncle is aging. A little slower, a little quieter than he used to be. Time is passing by. I made a date to go golf with him later this week. I wish my dad golfed.

Spent the evening with my family yesterday, and very happy to have the chance to do so... my father (understandably) went through a pretty hard time when I first started my changes. It wasn't easy on him at first, but he's come around now that he sees that I'm finally happy. :)

A lot of my friends who went through it were rejected by their parents, and I'm very lucky to have a father who truly loves me, no matter what. I try to remind myself of that on the other 364 days of the year too.
